I’m so glad you’re here

I'm Sue, a licensed marriage and family therapist in California (Lic #86786), Colorado (Lic #2829), and Hawaii (Lic #935), and a Certified Integrative Mental Health Practitioner. Since beginning this work in 2010, I've had the honor of supporting individuals through some of life's most challenging and transformative seasons.

My work is especially focused on female-identifying adults, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those navigating faith deconstruction after evangelical or high-control religious experiences. I understand how deeply identity, belief, and belonging are intertwined, and how much it matters to feel truly understood as you find your way through.

In recent years, I've become increasingly passionate about the relationship between mental and physical health, and what it means to care for the whole person. This integrative lens shapes everything I do in the therapy room, and it's an area I find both endlessly fascinating and deeply meaningful.

Outside of my practice, I enjoy hiking, good food, and creative pursuits; and I try to practice the same balance and self-compassion I encourage in the people I work with.

Empathy

Empathy is at the heart of everything I do. From our very first conversation, my goal is for you to feel genuinely understood - not just heard, but truly seen. I work hard to meet you exactly where you are, without judgment or agenda. And over time, our work together will also help you extend that same quality of understanding inward and outward, into the relationships that matter most to you.

Safety

Healing requires safety, and safety goes deeper than just feeling comfortable. It means feeling known. In our work together, I hold space for all of you: your thoughts, your emotions, and the quieter longings beneath the surface. When that kind of safety is present, something opens up. Growth becomes possible in ways it simply can't be otherwise. Creating that environment for you is something I take seriously and return to with intention, every single session.

Connection

Connection is one of the most powerful forces in human healing. When we feel genuinely connected to another person, to ourselves, to something larger, it changes us from the inside out. Anxiety softens, emotions become more manageable, self-worth grows, and even our physical health responds. In our work together, connection isn't just a byproduct, it's the foundation. The empathy and safety you experience in the therapy room create the conditions for real, lasting change.

Authenticity

Authenticity is an act of courage. It emerges naturally when you feel safe enough to be fully known or when the fear of judgment falls away and something truer can surface. As trust and connection deepen in our work together, you may find parts of yourself returning that you'd tucked away, forgotten, or never fully had permission to express. That unfolding is something I hold with great care. My hope is that you leave our work together feeling more at home in who you are.

MY APPROACH

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that you are a whole person and that real healing asks us to look at the whole picture. Together, we'll explore the systems and environments that have shaped you: your family of origin, your current relationships, your community, your work life, your spiritual practices, and anything else that feels significant to your story.

I work from a holistic, feminist framework - one that takes seriously how the world around you impacts the world within you. This means we'll explore not just your inner emotional landscape, but also the relational, cultural, and physical factors that influence how you feel and function day to day.

At the center of all of it is our therapeutic relationship. I believe it's one of the most meaningful catalysts for change, and I don't take that lightly. My commitment is to show up for you with honesty, care, and genuine curiosity session after session. You are the expert on your own life. My role is to listen deeply, collaborate thoughtfully, and walk alongside you as you find your way toward greater healing, clarity, and ease.
